I first became interested in photography watching my father as he developed and printed black and white photos in the cramped kitchen of our New York apartment. This interest has carried on waxing and waning with whatever else was going on in my life, upgrades in equipment, and available time. Now that my boys are grown I have a bit more opportunity to devote to my hobby. Also, the advent of digital photography is, in part, responsible for the current revitalization of my interest in this art form.

Some of these photos were taken when I participated in a workshop at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center where I have been involved in a watercolor class for the past year or so. I now have the opportunity to combine my artistic interests when I paint some of the photos that I have taken.

Much of my motivation to do more art comes from anticipation of retirement and the need to find new meaningful activities. After more than 35 years on the faculty of Kent State in the Psychology department, retirement is rapidly approaching and I want to be as prepared as possible as this new phase of life begins in the next couple of years. Doing artwork is exhilarating, frustrating, and at times very satisfying. I am looking forward to the time when I can devote even more time and energy to this engaging pass time.
