The works I've selected represent two of my primary photographic interests. One important reference point for my photographs is my interest in the history of landscape painting. J. M. W. Turner, Constable, Corot, Lorrain, Winslow Homer, and the Hudson River School are particular favorites. These artists and the study of the history of landscape paintings have influenced my sense of composition and color. My second interest is in offering new views of the mundane. I hope that some of my photographs - pavement, graffiti, and objects in nature are examples - compel a closer examination of the small details of our environment. Photography forces me to notice the mystery and beauty of the ordinary everyday world and I intend for these images to have the same effect on others. |
